Nigerian Creative Enterprise Support Programme 2019

Delivering Creative and Business Skills to designers based in Lagos, Nigeria.
Earlier this year, Fashion Foundry partnered with Lagos based The Assembly Hub to develop and deliver a creative and business support programme to over 50 designers in Nigeria on behalf of the British Council.

The creative workshops were delivered at White Space Gallery in Lagos every day for two weeks. The creative team and workshops included:

  • Research, Moodboards and Print Design with Ruth Mitchell
  • Pattern Cutting and Draping with Carolyn Edmondson
  • Technical Drawing with Robert Newman
  • Rapid Prototyping with Flavia Bon
  • Figure drawing and Fashion Illustration with Fashion Foundry Producer Ciorstaidh Monk.

The Assembly Hub took the lead on a series of business classes with high profile guest speakers.

The 50 designers were then marked on a variety of factors including creative ability, willingness to learn and pitching, and half were chosen to go to the next stage. The chosen 25 took part in a 9-week intensive receiving studio space with access to machinery and were paired with a creative mentor. Fashion Foundry kept in touch by delivering remote online support, via mentors Fiona Chautard, Alan Dibble, Keith Charters and Ciorstaidh Monk.

“Having group discussions in class, sharing techniques and ideas with students who were self-taught but very experienced and talented. The last few minutes of class almost always ended in this ‘skill-share’ type exchange which was very beneficial both for students and myself!”
